A patient was scheduled to see Amanda for wound care (billable RN visit) and, upon arrival, also had complaints of itching in multiple areas. Amanda observed that the patient was infested with lice. Amanda took the time to clean and dress the patient's wound, removed items of clothing and DME that live lice were crawling on, and offered clean replacements, and cleaned and dressed all observable areas with live lice and dried blood. She showed compassion, excellence, and purpose in treating this patient with skill and dignity.

The patient was scheduled to return to the office for a visit with a provider; Amanda helped plan for how best to care for the patient upon their return to the office, offered to train the provider's MA on caring for this particular issue (showing true teamwork), contacted relevant social service resources on behalf of the patient (homeless, lack of medications, risk of reinfestation, etc.), and carefully documented the patient encounter in Cerner without judgement.
