In both situations, she acted with urgency, compassion, and an unshakable commitment to doing what’s right for the patient, regardless of whether they were “hers” or not.
It is with heartfelt gratitude that I nominate Amanda for the DAISY Award. She has gone above and beyond not just once, but twice, for two members of my family, showing unwavering commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care that extends far beyond her formal responsibilities.
My grandmother was struggling with a post-surgical wound that wasn’t healing. Although she wasn’t a patient at Hancock Health, this nurse immediately offered support. She took time to answer our questions and recognized that my grandmother needed more specialized care. Without delay, she helped arrange an appointment for her at the Hancock Center for Wound Healing the very next day.
This was an extraordinary effort, considering she wasn’t even responsible for her care. She continued to check in after each appointment, making sure my grandmother was progressing well. Today, thanks to her persistence and compassion, my grandmother’s wound has healed beautifully, and she is walking with much more ease.
More recently, I experienced a personal health crisis. I am a patient at Hancock Health and required emergency surgery at another Hospital. After my discharge, my follow-up care fell through. I was left in a difficult and frustrating situation, trying to get someone to listen to me and provide the necessary care.
Once again, Amanda stepped in. She took it upon herself to call the other hospital, explain the full situation, and help them understand the urgency. Because of her advocacy, the office responded immediately and got me scheduled for the care I desperately needed.
In both situations, she acted with urgency, compassion, and an unshakable commitment to doing what’s right for the patient, regardless of whether they were “hers” or not. She listens, she acts, and she follows through. She is the very definition of what a DAISY nurse should be: a healer, an advocate, and a constant source of support. I cannot thank her enough for the care she has shown to both me and my grandmother. Her persistence and heart have made all the difference. She is truly a wonder and an invaluable asset to Hancock Health.
