I’ve never received such professionally kind and responsive care in my life.
Hello, I recently nominated two nurses from my stay at SRMC. However, I found that the third shift nurse, Amanda, was by far the best. I was in the ER for severe dehydration. The hospital was full, and I needed to spend the night in the ER. That was when I met Amanda. That evening was nothing I ever imagined or expected. To put it in perspective, please know that I was experiencing severe diarrhea and sporadic vomiting. This is an embarrassing story for me but needs to be reported because Amanda was extremely professional, kind, and thoughtful the entire time.
The medical regimen was to keep me hydrated with a saline solution via IV mixed with potassium. Not only did Amanda keep the solution adjusted so the potassium administration did not burn, but she also had to deal with the subsequent expulsion of the solutions from my system. While awake, I continually used the commode, which she kept emptying.
That evening, I finally fell asleep for the first time in days. I woke up around 4:00 a.m. for blood work, which was enough to alert my body that it uncontrollably needed to expel excess fluids. Which it did, all over the bed, sheets, blankets, me, the floor, and anywhere else it was not intended. All this commenced while my blood was being drawn. I was extremely embarrassed.
Without hesitation, Amanda quickly responded as if my physical reaction was normal and expected, and began assisting me and cleaning up the disgusting mess. Please note that she did not call for housekeeping, did not let me lie in the mess, and did not act annoyed. She grabbed new clothing, bedding, towels, zinc cream, and wipes without me asking. She was so calm and kind. I wanted to cry because I was so embarrassed, and yet, she never added any pressure or guilt. When the rest of the mess and I were cleaned, she continued on as if it had never happened.
Amanda went far above and beyond what I expected. I have never received such professionally kind and responsive care in my life - especially during such an unpleasant situation. She truly deserves the DAISY Award.
