I would like to recognize Amanda Dewar for the extraordinary care and compassion she provided to my 87-year-old aunt during her recent visit to the Emergency Room at Saint Mary’s Hospital. My aunt was experiencing serious heart-related issues, and the situation was understandably frightening for both her and our family. From the moment we arrived, this nurse demonstrated an incredible combination of professionalism, warmth, and empathy.

Amanda took the time to speak gently and clearly to my aunt, making sure she understood what was happening and reassuring her every step of the way. Even during moments of urgency, she never lost her calm demeanor or her kindness. What truly stood out was the way the nurse treated my aunt, not just as a patient, but as a person. Amanda explained everything, and when she was scared, she made sure she was comfortable. She even took a moment to let me borrow her phone charger so I could keep my family updated and consistently answered all of my questions.

Those small acts of compassion made a world of difference in a very overwhelming moment. Amanda’s clinical skills were clearly excellent, but it was the human touch that she brought that we appreciated. Our family left the ER that day feeling not just cared for but genuinely supported. My aunt later said, “I felt reassured because of that nurse.” That alone speaks volumes. I am so grateful for the care my aunt received, and I wholeheartedly believe that Amanda Dewar embodies everything the DAISY Award represents.
