Amanda is not only an exceptional nurse - she is a living example of strength, grace, and compassion. This past year, Amanda received the life-altering diagnosis of Stage 3 Cancer. While many would understandably take time away to process and heal, Amanda chose to show up for her patients, her team, and our mission - day after day. She has continued to give her absolute best, often placing the needs of others before her own, with authenticity, humility, and unwavering dedication.
Amanda's presence on our team is both grounding and inspiring. She models exactly what it means to lead with purpose and heart. One of the most profound examples of her impact occurred recently when she sat with a newly diagnosed cancer patient. Recognizing the fear and uncertainty in their eyes - something Amanda knows all too well - she gently took their hand, shared words of encouragement, and offered to simply sit with them and listen. She gave them strength to take the next step in their journey.
Amanda consistently goes above and beyond in ensuring patient safety. Just recently, a physician ordered a Unna boot for a patient. After assessment of the wound, Amanda noticed a subtle change that didn't feel right to her. She immediately escalated the concern, advocating for reassessment. Thanks to her keen clinical judgment, the patient was found to need a surgical debridement and increased wound care. She noticed that the area the doctor assessed looked more like eschar and slough versus the previous week. There is a long-standing wound care patient that visits us frequently. She lights up every time she sees Amanda. On days when Amanda is off, the patient always asks, "Where is my girl?" This is a testament to the trusting and healing relationship Amanda has built. She doesn't just perform wound care; she treats the patient as a whole person, with compassion, humor, and dignity. That patient has said that Amanda is the reason she no longer dreads her visits to the doctors - she looks forward to them. Amanda is also the only one who can access her port without difficulty each time.
