Alyssa’s dedication, empathy, and human connection made an extraordinary difference in our experience.
Alyssa Niida went above and beyond in caring for our two-month-old daughter, S, during her stay at CHLA. S was admitted to the NICCU needing surgery to address significant weight-loss concerns — an overwhelming and emotional experience for our family. Alyssa cared for S during three of the six days we were there, and her presence brought comfort and reassurance during a very difficult time.
From the start, Alyssa treated S with remarkable gentleness, attention, and skill. She took the time to explain every step of her care, patiently answered all of our questions, and made sure we felt informed and supported. Her confidence and compassion helped us feel grounded when everything felt uncertain.
What meant even more was how Alyssa cared not only for S, but for us as a family. She took the time to get to know us as S’s parents, and she asked about our other children. She genuinely understood how hard it was to be away from them while we stayed at the hospital. One of the moments that touched us most was when she jumped onto a FaceTime call with the other kids to reassure them that S was safe, cared for, and would be home soon. That simple act of kindness made them feel included and helped ease their worries — something we will never forget.
Alyssa’s dedication, empathy, and human connection made an extraordinary difference in our experience. She cared for S with exceptional professionalism, and she cared for us with heartfelt compassion. We are deeply grateful for the comfort, support, and kindness she provided. She is everything the DAISY Award represents.
