Alyssa made certain to not only provide the utmost care to the patient but was extremely empathetic and caring towards the patient’s needs and current state of emotions.
There was a 78-year-old female patient who was admitted to 6 East due to a recent infection and was receiving antimicrobial therapy. At shift change, the patient had alerted her bedside RN that her colostomy bag had leaked, and the external female catheter had become dislodged. Alyssa was not even caring for this patient but had been the Charge Nurse that day and took it upon herself to go take care of the patient. Upon entering the patient’s room, the patient was found sitting in the chair covered in her own bodily fluids and was clearly embarrassed. Alyssa made certain to not only provide the utmost care to the patient but was extremely empathetic and caring towards the patient’s needs and current state of emotions. Staying well past her shift, Alyssa, not only bathed the patient, but washed and combed her hair, changed her colostomy bag, re-made her hospital bed with fresh linens, cleaned the floor of the bodily fluids, and provided the utmost care towards the patient truly exemplifying the true meaning of being a Nurse. This is just one of many stories where Alyssa has gone above and beyond to provide the utmost nursing care towards patients. Alyssa is truly the definition of Nursing and deserves to be recognized for the nursing care that she provides to all her patients past and present.
