La angustia que vivimos como familia por la incertidumbre del diagnóstico y, por lo mismo, la gravedad que podía tener fueron calmadas por él.
Hace unas semanas, tuvimos que realizarle a mi padre una coronariografía. El contexto en el que nos enfrentamos al examen fue angustioso y muy emocional, ya que en 3 días pasamos de tener a mi papá "sano" a tener posibles arterias coronarias "tapadas".
El enfermero Álvaro no era el que recibió a mi papá en primera instancia, sino que sacó a su colega a colación. La angustia que vivimos como familia por la incertidumbre del diagnóstico y, por lo mismo, la gravedad que podía tener fueron calmadas por él. Amablemente nos transmitió paz y confianza en el proceso.
Son detalles que marcan la diferencia y demuestran el gran cuidado que entrega. Muchas veces he escuchado que en los procedimientos los profesionales se enfocan en el "hacer" y no en el impacto emocional que tiene en el paciente y su familia. Me alegra mucho reconocer que en esta ocasión no fue el caso y reflejó los valores que caracterizan al premio Daisy: compasión, contención, cercanía y calidez.
Translation:
A few weeks ago, we had to have a coronary angiography performed on my father. The context in which we faced the examination was distressing and very emotional, since in 3 days we went from having my father "healthy" to him having possible "blocked" coronary arteries.
Nurse Álvaro was not the one who received my father initially, but rather he stepped in for his colleague. The anguish that we experienced as a family because of the uncertainty of the diagnosis and, for that same reason, the seriousness that it could have, was calmed by him. Kindly, he conveyed peace and confidence in the process to us.
These are the details that make the difference and demonstrate the great care that he provides. Many times I have heard that during procedures professionals focus on the "doing" and not on the emotional impact that it has on the patient and their family. I am very glad to acknowledge that on this occasion that was not the case, and he reflected the values that characterize the DAISY Award: compassion, support, closeness, and warmth.
