Allison Kent, RN

I would like to nominate Allison for a DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion, dedication, and patient-centered care she consistently demonstrates. Allison cared for a critically ill patient over multiple shifts who was battling a prolonged and complicated course, including ARDS and pneumocystis pneumonia, requiring extended ventilator support. Despite the severity of his condition, the patient remained awake at times on the ventilator and experienced significant anxiety. Allison showed exceptional attentiveness not only to his clinical needs but also to his emotional well-being. Understanding his anxiety, Allison thoughtfully provided him with a small squishy “Needoh” toy to help ease his stress during care activities. This simple yet meaningful gesture made a profound difference. He would reach for it whenever he became anxious, especially during turns or procedures. It became a source of comfort and control during a very vulnerable time. The patient's family, including his wife, who is a nurse, recognized Allison's exceptional care and repeatedly requested her as his nurse. She built a strong, trusting relationship with them, offering clear communication, empathy, and unwavering support throughout his hospitalization.
Unfortunately, after a long and difficult battle, the family decided to transition the patient to comfort care. By coincidence, Allison was again his nurse that day. She provided deeply compassionate end-of-life care, ensuring the patient's comfort and dignity while supporting the family through an incredibly difficult moment. Her presence brought them reassurance and peace, and she remained attentive to every detail to meet their needs.
