Allison Hampton, RN, BSN
I would like to recognize Allison Hampton for the extraordinary care she provided to my 91-year-old father during his time in the Medical Critical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). While our family is deeply grateful for the excellent care provided by the entire Hamilton Medical team—including the EMTs, Emergency Room staff, MICU team, and attending physicians—Allison, or Alli as we came to know her, made a truly exceptional impact during a very difficult time.
As my father’s nurse in the MCIU, Alli demonstrated a rare combination of clinical expertise, compassion, and emotional intelligence. She had a remarkable ability to sense exactly what my father needed—whether it was medical intervention, comfort, or reassurance. Her gentle approach helped keep him calm and at ease, even in his most vulnerable moments, while ensuring that all physician orders were carried out with the utmost precision and care.
Alli worked seamlessly alongside the broader medical team, advocating for my father and contributing meaningfully to his care. Just as importantly, she extended her support to our entire family. She kept us consistently informed, answered our questions with patience and clarity, and made sure our wishes were communicated and respected. Alli became like part of our family as she cared for us. She graciously allowed us to take a few photos of her lovingly attending to my dad—moments we will always treasure.
When my father expressed that he could not fight any longer and asked how to be taken off his medications, Alli responded with deep compassion. She took the time to gently explain why the medications and IV support were still necessary, meeting him with both honesty and kindness. She remained present during one of the most difficult moments, when my father shared with his doctor that although he wanted to see his great-grandchildren grow up, he could no longer continue the fight. Alli stayed by his side—and ours—through that decision. She combed his hair, swabbed his lips, and carefully positioned him in bed so we could FaceTime loved ones and say our final goodbyes. She stood with us so that we would not be alone.
We were truly blessed to have Alli during this time. Her extraordinary, personal level of care stood out even among a backdrop of highly dedicated and talented professionals. She embodies the very essence of nursing excellence and is deeply deserving of recognition.
