Allie’s dedication to helping others, her quickness to give praise and recognition, and her ability to balance these efforts while raising her two young sons exemplify what it means to be a Daisy Nurse Leader.
Allie Boykin is an exceptional nurse who selflessly dedicates herself to her team members, the oncology patient population, and their families. Her passion and commitment shine through in every interaction. For many years, Allie has participated in an annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for oncology patients hospitalized during the holidays. She also brings joy to her team by providing seasonal treats and organizing events such as Valentine’s goodies, Easter Egg hunts, and 4th of July cook-ins. Known as the unit’s barista, Allie delights her colleagues with delicious coffee.
Allie was instrumental in hosting a Christmas event on the Medical Oncology unit for six years. She provides donated gifts for patients to choose from for their families, free of charge, ensuring they do not have to shop. This initiative not only saves patients money but also protects those who are neutropenic from the crowds of Christmas shoppers. Patients can pick out gifts and have them wrapped, ready to be given to their loved ones. Last year, Allie helped with expanding this Christmas event to the entire Cancer Center. She took charge of marketing the event, posting flyers on Facebook, and creating beautiful decorations with her own money and time. Allie also collected donations, shopped for gifts, and set up a hot chocolate bar for patients to enjoy while waiting for their gifts to be wrapped. Over 300 patients were served during this weeklong event. One patient expressed how this event allowed him to share Christmas with his family without feeling inadequate.
Allie’s compassion extends beyond organized events. She helped organize a wedding for a patient with a poor prognosis and has arranged birthday celebrations for both patients and team members. Allie provides moral support to those in need, even stopping during a family vacation to assist a man who had hooked himself with a fishing hook. She selflessly cares for the underserved without hesitation.
