Alissa Sturdy, RN
My sister was bitten on the hand and seen in the ER; Alissa was assigned as her nurse. She went above and beyond her call of duty to make my sister feel comfortable, welcome, and safe.
My sister did not have health insurance, and even though her physical safety was in harm's way, her emotional state was also one of disbelief and almost dissociation. Alissa advocated for my sister, and she made sure that her pain was under control, as a copperhead bite is very painful and unpredictable, and its course of treatment at times.
Alissa answered our questions honestly, and if she did not have an answer, she stated that she would find out for us.
Alissa also bought my two sons a buffet downstairs in the cafeteria! Including: chicken tenders, cheese, sticks, a cheeseburger, two bags of chips, two drinks, and two sweet treats! Alyssa was so humble; she did not even tell us that she purchased the food! I believed it was the patient experience representative who was buying the food, on behalf of Phelps Health.
The patient experience representative told us to thank the nurse. After we thanked Alissa, she acted as if it was nothing and told us that the kids should have a good time, given the situation.
Thank you so much, Alissa! It is a breath of fresh air to have such compassionate, caring, and selfless nurses.
