Her presence gave us a sense of normalcy in the hospital, and I can't overstate how much that meant.
Nurse Alissa provided exceptional care to our family during our multiple hospital stays following the birth of our daughter. Her familiar smile made our experience not only bearable, but actually enjoyable. She is truly a gem. In the early hours of the morning, our daughter was born. Alissa was called in early to her shift after receiving a text at 4 a.m. that a baby was on the way. In the whirlwind of our daughter's first hour of life, Alissa swooped in and quickly became a steady and reassuring presence.
She cared for both my newborn and me with clinical excellence and genuine warmth, making us feel safe, protected, and supported in a way I'll never forget. Alissa was the saint who helped me get cleaned up after giving birth, tending to some of the rawest, most personal parts of postpartum recovery with dignity and kindness. She treated me like a human being first and a patient second, and it made an enormous difference in how I experienced those first hours and days.
Incredibly, while offering this level of compassionate care to us, Alissa was also actively training a new staff member. Watching her skillfully balance mentoring a colleague while remaining fully present with our family spoke volumes about her professionalism, leadership, and heart. She demonstrated not just what it means to be a great nurse, but what it means to lift others up alongside her.
Our story with Alissa didn't end there. A few days later, our daughter was readmitted to the hospital for high bilirubin levels and phototherapy treatment with a bili blanket. Alissa came to visit with us, keep us company, and help ease our fears during an emotional and exhausting time. Her presence gave us a sense of normalcy in the hospital, and I can't overstate how much that meant.
She offered emotional support, friendly conversation, and constant reassurance, showing us that good nurses don't just heal bodies, they heal hearts. Alissa embodies every value the DAISY Award represents: clinical excellence, compassion, collaboration, the ability to listen deeply, and the instinct to serve, guide, and heal. She didn't just care for us physically; she cared for us emotionally.
She became a friend and confidante, answering all of our new-parent questions with patience, humor, and genuine warmth. Before we left the hospital, she gifted us a baby bathtub and diapers, a small but heartfelt gesture that perfectly captures the kind of person and nurse she is. Alissa will be remembered as an integral and unforgettable part of our daughter's birth story and the early days of our family's life together. The world needs more people like her.
