Knowing this was a very difficult decision for me to make, she helped me navigate it with information, compassion, and humanity that one doesn’t usually see in these situations.
I went into the ER for complications during postpartum. I didn’t know I would be staying as an inpatient on the antepartum floor at Prentice with a diagnosed heart condition. With the medications I was given, I could no longer breastfeed. Nurse Alicia was not only compassionate during my stay, but she also advocated for me to different doctors, kept me informed with any new findings, made sure I was comfortable, and advocated for me to stay in the room I was in so my newborn and husband could stay with me.
Before I started the medication, which would inhibit me from breastfeeding, she allowed me to breastfeed my then 10-day-old one last time. Knowing this was a very difficult decision for me to make, she helped me navigate it with information, compassion, and humanity that one doesn’t usually see in these situations.
I will forever be grateful to have had her as my nurse during that uncertain time.
