My husband was having great difficulty breathing and felt very dizzy, so my daughter had to call for an ambulance. Needless to say, all of us were very distraught. When we got to the ER, we went to a room where Alexis provided us with two chairs. She explained what was going on and answered all of our endless questions.

As time went on, we took turns being with my husband. Over time, Alexis let more of us visit until we were finally all five there. We were in the ER for hours, and my husband was attached to more things than I’ve ever seen in my life.

Alexis made it possible for my daughters to stop crying and for me to control my tears. She was amazingly supportive, and even though he was still unconscious when they moved him to the ICU, we were in a much better state of mind to continue.

God bless Alexis, not only for her talents but for her ability to give us the courage we needed to continue.

It’s not so much a specific moment or story but an overall experience. My family and I came in on one of the scariest days of our lives, and her kind, gentle, funny, and personable demeanor really put us at ease. She provided such comfort and care to not only my father but his family as well.

---

My 78 year old father was brought into the ED in severe respiratory distress. He was dusky grey, and oxygenating in the 40s. Alexis kept me in the loop every step of the way. She was so attentive to my very needy family and very patient with me.

As a nurse practitioner, I have a tendency to overrun medical issues, and she was very patient with me as well. She took such amazing care of my dad, my family, and every situation that arose, never once getting frazzled. She treated us like family.

She is what a nurse should be. She is caring, compassionate, and empathetic. She is a real gem and UPMC is very lucky to have her.

Thank you, Alexis, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
