Tonight, I witnessed Alexis go above and beyond for a patient. I was sitting 1:1 with a young patient down in the ER who is in a vulnerable state. The patient is going through a lot and came to the ER for help. Alexis advocated for this patient and stood up for her, asking visitors to leave to improve the environment of her care when arguments persisted.

The patient then asked for food, but since the cafeteria was closed, the best I could offer was sandwiches and small items in the fridge. I was able to snag the patient a couple of Uncrustables from our break room, but Alexis went above and beyond and ordered the patient some McDonald's chicken nuggets since the patient is a picky eater. Alexis also walked over to the skybridge to snag the patient some mac and cheese.

The patient had previously had their phone calls recorded, so Alexis offered her Voalte phone so the patient could call their parents. In my opinion, Alexis has stepped out of the box in many ways tonight to better this patient’s experience, in ways that she didn't have to. Obviously, this patient was having a rough time, and Alexis was kind, sensitive, and supportive.

This is more than just providing exceptional care. Alexis is one of the nurses who isn't recognized enough for all her hard work because she quietly performs these kind acts, not for recognition. Alexis is incredibly kind and compassionate in her job, and it showed tonight through her sympathy for this patient.
