Because of her knowledge, persistence, demeanor, and attitude, a more serious situation was averted.
My brother has renal cancer that has spread to his spine. In 2025 alone, he has been a patient at Banner Desert four different times. During the last two visits, he has been in critical condition. During the current visit, he was stabilized in the ICU and then moved to PCU.

This is where nurse Alexis comes in. When she started her assessment, she asked general questions like any other nurse; however, she went the extra mile because she had already reviewed his history. She came prepared and knowledgeable. She asked relevant questions about things she didn’t know.

After all of that, she interjects with “ok, so this is what we’re going to do.” Then she says, “This is the plan,” and she outlines all the medication, treatments, and other hospital visitors that will be coming around. She takes charge and follows through! All of this with a very positive attitude and smile – and some serious confidence.

In early May, my brother’s condition worsened to a life-threatening state. Alexis stepped up by monitoring his vitals and contacting the hospitalist and respiratory. Because of her knowledge, persistence, demeanor, and attitude, a more serious situation was averted.

We know that our brother’s condition isn’t survivable, but we’d like to see him get the most out of his life comfortably. Alexis is giving him that opportunity. Thank you, Alexis!
