I am very grateful to have had her assistance with a case that many people would have turned their backs on.
I was a consulting resident who needed to perform a bedside procedure for a very complex patient. This is not something I could have easily done alone, but also not a task many people would want to help me with. The patient needed a bedside debridement of a complex wound with insect infiltration, but simultaneously was transferred to the floor from the ED with blood that needed to be hung.
Alexandra was busy and had no requirement to assist the patient's care team and me, but she chose to be a team player and assist those in need. She did not hesitate when she was asked to help, and eagerly jumped into action, helping manage the units of blood to ensure that the patient could be properly transfused and that no blood went to waste. This allowed me to perform the wound debridement in a timely manner without compromising patient care.
She had a positive mentality, worked carefully and efficiently, and helped facilitate a seamless transition from ED to floor with proper blood transfusion protocol. She then stayed in the room to assist with debridement without being asked. She maintained a professional, kind, attentive, and positive attitude, which made my stressful call shift easier and brightened my mood.
I am very grateful to have had her assistance with a case that many people would have turned their backs on. She is the pinnacle of what a good nurse is - she puts patients first, acts with compassion, and is there for her team. She deserves the highest praise and commendation.
