 I had my knee replaced. Recovering at home a few days later, I found myself with a fever, chills, a burning sensation when I went to the bathroom, and other symptoms of a UTI, something I have never experienced. At 2:30 am I decided to go to the ER at Tobey.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the care I received- all the way from getting signed in to getting a room in a timely fashion. However, one person really stood out during my stay at Tobey, and that was ER Nurse Alexandra Pinto.

Arriving scared with my new knee and worried about an infection spreading to it, I found Alexandra professional, caring about my concerns, and keeping the conversation slightly humorous as she prepared me for the treatment I was about to receive. The ER was a busy place that night, but she never rushed her work with me. I felt a lot better knowing I had a nurse who really cared about her job.

If the DAISY Award features compassion and skillful nursing, Alexandra is truly deserving of this award. Alexandra is an asset to Tobey Hospital and should be recognized for this award.

As I left Tobey Hospital, I was truly “wowed” by the treatment and care that I received. If this is the way patients are cared for under Alexandra’s watch, Tobey Hospital can be assured that the patients are receiving deserved, compassionate, skilled care and a friendly voice to ease their fears and concerns.
