My significant other traveled with his mother to Huntley Hospital from Minnesota and was scheduled for a panniculectomy. I stayed back home in Minnesota to work. At about 9:30 pm that evening, I received a call from the doctor, who informed me that he had started to bleed out.

He reassured me everything was okay and that the bleeding had stopped. Little did I know the severity of his bleeding and the need to return to the operating room for surgery! After I hung up, I called him, and Alex, the RN, answered. She was calm and made sure I knew what was happening and the plan. I could hear him in the background.

I asked her to please ask him if I should urgently fly down to be at the hospital. He said yes. At about 10:30 pm, he was taken back into surgery, and it was a good thing he did. He and I want to recognize Alex, as she went above and beyond by advocating and pushing for the urgency of her concern for him to the doctor. The importance of advocating for patients in a moment of uncertainty is so important.

If it weren't for Alex and her speaking out with concern, he very well could have died that night. We are forever grateful for her and the rest of those present and for what everyone did for him. Thank you for your excellent care

Thank you, Alexandra, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
