I was blessed to have had Alexa Fishmnan as one of my nurses. When I think of Alexa, all these positive words come to mind: energetic, compassionate, gentle, kind, and bubbly, to name a few. Every time a shift change began, I was nervous to see who my next nurse would be. As soon as she walked in, I felt a sense of relief as she lit up the room with her exuberant character. For the following hours, I received nothing but extraordinary care from her. Every time she was going to administer a medication, she was gentle and would explain and answer any questions I had. Constantly checking up on me, making sure I was doing ok. She has also taken time to interact with my family and reassure them I was in good hands. When I expressed my doubts over my CNA taking me for a walk, she took time from her very busy schedule to help me get my daily walk. Furthermore, with three days without being able to take a shower, I asked her to allow me to shower, but due to my IV, I wasn't able to. Nevertheless, a few minutes before ending her long 12-hour shift, Alexa took the time to come and offer me an alternative to showering by giving me a sponge bath. She understood the importance of hygiene and wanted me to be as comfortable as possible once she had left. Every action she took towards me was done with so much professionalism, compassion, and love. Fast forward two months, as I waited for my nurse, I heard my nurse greeting me. That voice was familiar. As I looked up, I saw Alexa. We both looked at each other in disbelief. The joy in our faces was priceless.
