In a world where care can often feel transactional, Nurse Alex reminded me that healing is relational.
During my recent hospitalization for acute appendicitis, I had the privilege of being cared for by Nurse Alex Llanes, whose clinical skill, professionalism, and compassion transformed what could have been a traumatic experience into one marked by reassurance, comfort, and healing. From the moment I arrived at West Kendall after being transferred from an off-campus ED, Nurse Alex immediately created a sense of stability and trust. Despite the pain I was experiencing and the anxiety that came with an unexpected diagnosis, Alex approached me with calm confidence. He listened attentively, communicated clearly, and took time to explain each step in a way that made me feel like a partner in my own care, not just a patient. What stood out most was his consistency and presence. Throughout my stay, Alex returned multiple times to check on me—sometimes simply to ask how I was doing or to offer a few encouraging words.
The morning of my laparoscopic appendectomy, he helped prepare me physically and emotionally for surgery. At a time when I was nervous, hungry, and uncomfortable, he remained focused and kind, ensuring I had everything I needed, advocating for my comfort, and grounding me with his professionalism. His balance of clinical precision and emotional sensitivity created an environment where I felt truly cared for, not just treated. Alex took the time to listen and managed my care plan to support a smooth recovery. Rather than rushing through tasks, he slowed down, made eye contact, and met me with genuine compassion. It was clear that his motivation wasn’t just professional—it was personal. In a world where care can often feel transactional, Nurse Alex reminded me that healing is relational. His impact was not just in how he administered care, but in how he made me feel seen, respected, and safe. For that, I am sincerely grateful.
