Her bright eyes and big smile make you feel her love and genuine warmth.
From the moment you meet Albany, she explodes with cheer. Her bright eyes and big smile make you feel her love and genuine warmth. After spending 2 clinical semesters with Albany during her Senior 2 Fall term, it was clear she was made to be a nurse and had picked the perfect profession.
The nurses on 9A and the Neurosurgical ICU loved having her as a student. The ICU nurse with whom she was commonly teamed up would stop me in the hallway and ask if she was here and if Albany would be in the ICU with her that day. She was literally excited to see and be around her.
While on the Pediatric unit at LCH, we had a 3-year-old patient who was very shy and spent weeks in the hospital recovering. She immediately bonded with Albany and only wanted Albany to help her. The nurses from the unit were very impressed with how much Albany was able to motivate the 3-year-old into getting out of her room and playing in the playroom. She sat up for hours and even began going for a stroll around the unit, all because of the bond she formed with Albany on the first day. Two weeks after Albany returned, the 3 year old remembered her and wanted her as her nurse.
Albany is kind, empathic, humble, and always eager to learn. She truly understands what using the Benedictine hallmarks in her practice represents, and I believe that she is the perfect candidate for the first student Daisy Award at Belmont Abbey College Nursing program. When this award was presented to us as faculty, Albany was the first student I thought of, and I can only imagine her receiving this award. She is a perfect representation of what the award stands for.
Albany Bock for president! I had my pediatric clinical with Albany. She cared for a young girl who was very sick after a complication from a routine surgery. She was there for so long that we saw her again two weeks after at our next clinical date. Albany had made such an impact on this little girl that even two weeks later, when we returned, her face lit up with a huge smile at the sight of Albany. It was very inspiring, and I hope to make an impact on my patients in the way Albany does.
