I see the way Airlie Admas serves her team and the patients. I appreciate how she supports, mentors, and collaborates with all the team members involved with a patient to work towards successful outcomes, but I have not taken the time to put my thoughts on paper until now, after watching this latest act of service go above and beyond.

This morning an elderly, confused patient called the nursing station. He had been discharged the day before and was asking questions about when he needed to come in for surgery. Fortunately, Airlie knew who this patient was and spoke to him to remind him he had already had surgery. She asked him questions about his current health, reoriented him as best she could, and learned he no longer had the Foley catheter in place that he was discharged with.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation and knowing the patient lived in an independent living section of a nursing home, Airlie proactively took charge. She initiated contact with the nursing staff where the patient resided, requesting immediate outreach to check on the patient and for the on-site physician to conduct an evaluation. The staff of the home was grateful for her intervention, confirming they would have their physician assess him and subsequently reporting that they would be transitioning him to their skilled nursing unit for continued recovery from his surgery. Airlie’s thoroughness didn’t stop there. She promptly contacted the patient’s surgeon to report the missing Foley catheter and to update him on the patient’s deteriorating condition and subsequent change in care environment. Finally, she reached out to the patient’s son, providing him with an update on his father’s situation.

This incident is a powerful example of Airlie’s unwavering dedication. She went significantly beyond the call of duty for a patient who had already been discharged, demonstrating a profound sense of responsibility and genuine care that extends beyond standard hospital protocols. While this particular event profoundly illustrates her commitment, it is but one of countless instances where Airlie consistently cares for and supports her patients and colleagues.

Thank you, Airlie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
