Her combination of expertise, candor, and heart is one of a kind.
I am honored to recognize Agnes. Not only is she an exceptional nurse, but she is also an incredible coworker, a reliable team player, and one of the most valuable resources on our unit. Working alongside her has been a privilege, and her dedication to our Veterans shines through every single day.
Agnes models empathy and a caring attitude in every situation. She takes the time to make sure each Veteran feels heard, supported, and prepared. Recently, a Veteran came to the unit confused about his pre-procedure instructions. Agnes immediately brought him into a private room and spent 30 minutes going through everything—from which medications to hold starting seven days prior, to foods to avoid, to how to prepare his bowel prep. Her patience and clarity transformed his anxiety into confidence.
Her clinical skills and attention to detail are outstanding. She routinely goes above and beyond her nursing duties by coordinating Priority 2 MAC GI procedures. Agnes gathers outside records, arranges anesthesia-required EKGs and labs, and even assists with needed PCP appointments. Her work prevents delays, improves patient safety, and ensures each Veteran receives seamless, well-coordinated care.
As a coworker, Agnes is someone you can always count on—and part of what makes her so memorable is her personality. She may be a little spicy at times, but it’s exactly the kind of spice that makes the workday brighter. Her humor, honesty, and spirited energy keep the team grounded and smiling, even on tough days. Beneath that spice is someone who will drop everything to help, answer a question, or guide a colleague who needs support. Her combination of expertise, candor, and heart is one of a kind.
Agnes embodies the mission, vision, and ICARE values of the Albany VA Hospital. Her integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and dedication to excellence are evident in her actions. She advocates fiercely for Veterans, anticipates their needs, and consistently finds solutions to barriers in their care.
She also forms meaningful connections with Veterans and families. Many express how comfortable and reassured they feel after meeting her. She makes people feel valued, respected, and genuinely cared for in moments when compassion matters most.
In every way, Agnes represents the spirit of the DAISY Award. She is a remarkable nurse, a trusted coworker, and someone who brings excellence and heart into everything she does. I wholeheartedly and proudly nominate her for this honor.
