My mother has reached the point in her life where she has to make some very hard decisions. Thanks to the great care she has received since her hospital admission, she will be able to make those decisions with a better perspective.
Her doctor is very thorough and patient with my mother, sister, and me. He listens to our questions and concerns and thoroughly explains everything so that we can make better-informed decisions for her future care. Her nursing care team has shown such compassion and patience while providing good nursing care.
In the two days that I have been here with my mother, I have noticed great teamwork between all the staff time and time again. Everyone seems to be happy and willing to step in to help whenever needed. There has been no "It's not my job...not my patient" attitude.
Yesterday, when mom's nurse had to replace her IV access and was having difficulty finding a good vein, more than one team member stepped up to assist, but due to mom's failing health status, they were not successful. However, in a short time, a nurse anesthetist came in and was able to achieve good IV access. Everyone involved displayed such great teamwork, appreciation for one another's assistance while being patient and compassionate to my mother and her comfort.
Earlier today, I inquired as to whether nebulizer treatments would be helpful and/or recommended with regard to my mother's condition. A short time after, we were told that Respiratory Therapy would be in to give her a treatment as ordered. Mom felt noticeably better after receiving it.
She has also been seen by Physical Therapy, and they too were very good with her, explaining to her what the plan was and then patiently guiding her to safely move and walk.
All in all, we are very pleased with our mother's care and the progress she is making from the nursing assistants and all the team members, all the way up to her physician. We are so grateful for the kindness and competence they show their patients daily.
