September 2026 Honoree
Adrieanna Maccioli, RN
I came in with severe back pain that was preventing me from standing, much less walking. My home situation is a bit chaotic and not a very good place for someone with chronic diseases, as I have. I've always kept to myself about how hard it is for me to do simple ADLs at home. I suffer from RA, CHF, ILD, diabetes, severe anxiety, and depressive disorder. I was very overwhelmed by this hospital stay and cried when no one was in the room. Addy saw that I was upset; she held my hand and said she was there for me. No one else mattered, and I could talk to her. No one has ever said that to me. I cried as I expressed everything I was feeling, how I couldn't care for myself 100%, felt unsafe in my home, and was scared of what my MRI results would show. I told her how I love my family, but they cannot take care of me properly. I explained how I had sat in my own urine for days because I had no help to clean up. She wrapped her arms around me and told me it was okay. She listened and made sure I knew she cared about what I went through. She assured me I wouldn't be sent home if I felt unsafe and discussed my options. She messaged case management and the social worker to help me. She cared about my internal pain as well as my physical pain. She made sure my pain was treated quickly and effectively. She is an exceptional nurse, a beautiful soul who loves what she does, and it shows in the care she provides. She so deserves this award. I honestly felt like I had nothing to live for, and she showed me I deserve a long, happy life. She saved me, and I'll never forget her for that.

I was in for a total knee replacement, and she was my overnight nurse. She was a joy to have! She was very patient with me. She answered many questions that I threw at her and walked with me on several laps around the floor. She was very responsive and made my sleepless night much more bearable! She took exceptional care of me from the beginning of her shift through the end.

Entering med-surg after extreme post-op discomfort, pain, and nausea, I met APD Nurse. She took me under her wing and was determined to make me feel better. I felt so reassured as she checked on me often. Her kind, gentle nature played a big part in my post-op recovery. She made being in the hospital a pleasure. Her positive attitude, kindness, and sense of humor were a welcome addition! Thank you!

During an especially busy shift in the Emergency Department, our team found ourselves short of nurses due to a Code Blue being called. One of our ED technicians reached out to Med Surg for help, and she came to our unit without hesitation. She immediately jumped in wherever she was needed, passing medications, closely monitoring a hypotensive patient, and taking on any task asked of her with a calm, positive attitude. Her willingness to leave her own unit to support ours during a stressful moment exemplifies the very best of nursing. As our Emergency Department continues to experience increasing patient volumes, knowing we have nurses like her who are willing to lend a hand means more than words can express. Her compassion, teamwork, and selflessness made a real difference for both our staff and our patients today. Thank you, APD Nurse, for being the kind of nurse every team hopes to work alongside.

She is amazing. It's like having the best mother in the world taking care of me. She is: efficient, kind, warm, thorough, and obviously an expert at the very important job of being a nurse. I can tell because I have friends who are nurses. She met all my needs and made sure I stayed safe and healthy. She and Lisa make an unusually good team. It's as if they can read each other's minds. She deserves a raise and a free vacation.

She is a nurse! She walks in with a smile! If I need to go to the bathroom, she cleans up, makes the bed, and gets new ice. She walks in the door with fresh water for the neds, she doesn't have to go get it, she's kind, thoughtful. I'm so happy I had her!
