Adriana made an effort to connect with and create a therapeutic relationship with each of them.
While walking out of a music festival, my friend was bitten by something in the dark part of a trail. As three girls alone, dirty, sweaty, and exhausted, we were scared. The fear continued as we arrived at the emergency room, and an IV needed to be put in. Our nurse, Adriana, met us with a smile and calming energy. After hearing about our night, she turned on some music for us while we waited to learn more from the doctor.

Being in a hall bed, we got a glimpse of her on Saturday night. We watched as she briskly walked from room to room, made multiple phone calls, and found time to help her coworkers.

Adriana was already busy when a difficult patient was put in the hall near us. We overheard her as she met that patient with the same calm, compassionate energy she gave us.

She quickly jumped in to help the patient and ended with vomit in her hair, on her scrub top, down her arm, and even in her mouth. Being right next to the nurses' station, we could see her take just a minute to gather herself and clean up. We watched as she bounced right back to the same kind, joyful person she was before. After changing her shirt, she returned with a smile saying “at least it’s hair wash day!”

Despite her busy night, she carried herself with so much grace. Her patience, experience, and skill shone through. I saw her return to that patient’s side with the same compassion and kindness as before.

And despite all that was going on, she continued to keep us updated on our care plan. She continued to laugh with us. She made sure we were comfortable. She answered every question we had. And she helped us get out quickly so we could continue to enjoy our festival weekend.

You could tell Adriana truly cared for each of her patients, even if she only saw them briefly. Adriana made an effort to connect with and create a therapeutic relationship with each of them.

Thank you, Adriana! It was a joy to meet you and see you in your element. You are so good at what you do.
