What may seem like a small gesture made a profound difference. According to the family, that simple act transformed the patient’s day and lifted his spirits during an otherwise frightening and uncertain time.
Adriana was recognized by the family of a patient who was admitted to the ICU. The patient and his loved ones were understandably overwhelmed, frightened, and facing an uncertain future.
During each of her shifts, Adriana went above and beyond to support not only the patient’s medical needs but also the emotional well-being of both the patient and his family. Her calm presence and compassionate communication helped bring comfort during an incredibly difficult time.
Adriana also became a strong advocate for the patient, helping facilitate the process for a transfer to Cedars-Sinai so he could receive specialized surgical care.
In one particularly meaningful moment, the patient asked if it might be possible to take a shower—something not commonly done in the ICU. Adriana immediately looked for a solution. After coordinating with her manager and the care team, she arranged for the patient to be transported to the Burn Unit, where he was able to shower safely.
