My boyfriend had hip replacement surgery at GRMC. He was in a lot of pain, anxious, and crabby—but lucky for us, Adrene was our nurse. She was so welcoming after we arrived from surgery. She was warm, compassionate, and very empathetic, and she was quick‑witted with a great sense of humor to match my boyfriend’s. She figured out his personality very quickly and was able to be at his level to encourage him through his painful PT and OT. When our doctors and other staff visited, she was with us, took notes, and recapped the important information that was shared with us about his recovery. She checked in often and kept him informed of when the next vitals, medications, and visits would be. She made us feel like we had known her forever and helped us both be very comfortable. At shift change, she did a very professional hand‑off, and then she was right back the next morning for another full day of support, care, and encouragement. We really felt like we bonded with her during our stay.
