Instead of focusing on what I couldn't do, she helped me recognize the small things I was capable of, and that change made a real difference in my willingness to eat and participate in my care.
I would like to nominate Nurse Adi for the DAISY Award for the extraordinary compassion and care she showed me during one of the most difficult moments of my life. Over the past few weeks, Nurse Adi has intermittently cared for me during my hospital stay, and throughout that time, her care and bedside manner have consistently been exceptional. Each time she was my nurse, she remembered me, checked in on how I was doing emotionally, and treated me with kindness and respect.
During this admission, I was struggling deeply. I was depressed, barely eating, and overwhelmed with fear after learning that I would need a PEG tube placed. I felt scared, discouraged, and unsure of how to move forward, and the weight of that news affected every part of my day. What stood out most was the way Adi met me exactly where I was emotionally. When my appetite was poor and my motivation was gone, she found gentle ways to encourage me without making me feel pressured or judged. She spoke with warmth and optimism that slowly shifted my mindset. Instead of focusing on what I couldn't do, she helped me recognize the small things I was capable of, and that change made a real difference in my willingness to eat and participate in my care.
Adi also took the time to explain the PEG tube placement in a way that eased my fear. She answered my questions thoroughly and honestly, breaking things down so they felt manageable rather than overwhelming. She reassured me that this was a step toward healing and helped me feel less afraid of what was ahead. As my friend sat with me at the bedside, she noticed how much calmer and more hopeful I became after Adi's visits. We both felt that Adi genuinely cared about me as a person, not just as a patient. Her kindness, patience, and presence brought comfort during a time that felt incredibly frightening.
Nurse Adi did more than provide excellent nursing care; she supported me emotionally and helped restore my confidence when I needed it most. Because of her, I felt seen, supported, and less alone. Nurse Adi truly embodies what the DAISY Award stands for, and I am deeply grateful for the care she provided.
