I had what was supposed to be a quick surgery and quick recovery over at the Baylis Day Surgery area.
In the recovery Phase 1 I became unstable and my blood pressure dropped very low causing me to be in and out of consciousness. I felt absolutely terrible. I was dizzy, seeing spots, and in and out. Addison was so strong during this moment and quickly acted to recognize the change in my medical status and intervened.
I also continued to hemorrhage a few times and would drop my blood pressure and begin to lose consciousness, and became very symptomatic a few more times. Addison quickly notified the various doctors what was going on and intervened quickly each time.
She kept her calm composure and was my constant reassurance during this very scary time. She never freaked out, she never hesitated with an intervention, and she was efficient and clear in her communication with others. She got others to the room quickly and was able to stabilize me very quickly each time. She was prompt with her interventions. I literally thought I was going to die. I had lost a lot of blood during surgery and was continuing to lose more.
Each time something happened, she was so quick to notify those who needed to be notified and to intervene. She was also explaining to me what they were doing in a calm and concise way. I literally cannot thank her enough. She is an absolute angel and is exactly where she needs to be in nursing.
A week later, I am back at work and feeling so much better. I know for a fact I would not have as good an outcome if it weren't for Addison. She not only saved my life, but her quick actions and clear communication ensured that I received the absolute best care that I could in this scenario. She never left my side and was such a calming presence in the chaos of what was going on.
I am also a nurse, so I was able to recognize a lot of what was going on as I went into hypovolemic shock, and I was able to understand a lot of the interventions they were doing. I myself have done them on numerous patients. It was so scary being on the other side as the patient. I am so, so, so very thankful for Addison.
She was able to get me stable and transferred to a higher level of care at the main PACU. She was also communicating with my spouse throughout all of this and keeping him updated.
I don't know how she managed to do it all, but I am so thankful for her. I felt so safe with her as my nurse and so safe with her care. She was my safe haven in such a scary situation.
