I am honored to nominate Adan for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion and care he shows to his patients and their families. I recently witnessed a moment that perfectly reflected his deep empathy and dedication to those he serves. While rounding in the ICU one day, I happened to observe a phone call that reminded me how much of an impact he has on the people he cares for. A family member of a former patient called the unit asking if he was working that day. When he took the call, the patient’s wife — whose husband had recently passed away — shared her heartfelt gratitude for the kindness and comfort he had shown during their time in the ICU. Her husband had been transferred almost two weeks before his passing, yet the family still felt compelled to reach out to thank Adan personally. The emotion in her voice and the sincerity of her words spoke volumes about the lasting impression his care had made. Those of us who witnessed the moment found ourselves in tears — not just from hearing of the patient’s passing, but from seeing how deeply his compassion had touched this family. Even in their grief, they wanted to make sure he knew what his care had meant to them. It was a beautiful reminder of how meaningful simple acts of kindness can be in our work. Adan truly represents the spirit of the DAISY Award. His ability to connect with patients and families during some of the hardest moments of their lives reflects both his exceptional skill and his genuine heart. Adan embodies what it means to provide extraordinary nursing care, and it is a privilege to put his name forward for this recognition.
