We would like to recognize Abigail Sullins for the outstanding care she provided for her primary patient and his family. Abigail was a primary nurse for a lengthy admission of a critical and complex baby. She not only provided excellent care for the baby but also for the mom.​ The baby has life-limiting issues, but mom refused to give up hope for her baby and had a very strong desire to take him home.

Mom is tiny but mighty in her voice and opinions. She is a very strong-willed individual and often finds it difficult to communicate and interact with others. Everyone from the medical team, bedside nurses, respiratory therapist, OT, PT, and ST, and often the unit secretaries had moments with mom. Often, we relied on Abigail to help us navigate communication with mom, and we greatly appreciated her assistance and willingness to be that bridge.

Through her personal journey with the mom, she was able to maintain a good rapport with her and was instrumental in being able to discharge a medically complex baby home without the usual medical resources available to most families. I know it was not always easy, and yet she persevered.​ She persevered because she loved this baby. She provided exceptional and compassionate care for him.

Abigail cared for him during times when it seemed to be against all odds and had to watch him struggle. But she stayed, loved him, and cared for him and his mom. She worked closely with the medical team and family in preparation for discharge home. Abigail is a prime example of the type of nursing we want to be known for at Arkansas Children's Hospital. Nurses who provide care, love, and hope, and that is exactly what Abigail provided for this baby and his family.​
