This nurse is the perfect example of a DAISY Award-worthy nurse. After a dark period of my life, I almost cut that life short. After the doctors made sure that I was no longer in need of emergent care, I was put in a room under the care and supervision of this nurse. She was so kind and understanding and spoke to me with genuine concern and love. While transferring me to my unit, I was very tearful. She waited until we were alone to get down to my level and express that I wasn't alone, sharing some details and experiences in her own life and related to me, as I am also a nurse. To me, the best nurses and the ones that I remember both as a co-worker and a patient aren't just the nurses who know every medication, or the nurses who are the most efficient, although this nurse was both of those things. The nurses who make a lasting impact on our lives are the ones who give compassion, a helping hand, share an experience, and let us know that patients aren't just a room number or diagnosis; they are people just like them. CAMC should be proud to have a nurse as caring and kind as mine was, and I think she deserves to be recognized as an example for all nurses.
