I would like to recognize Sue and Andrea because they exemplify what compassionate, patient-centered nursing should look like. As nurses working alongside Dr. Martinez, they have consistently gone above and beyond for our daughter, Baelyn, and our family during some of the most challenging moments of our lives.

B is a pediatric liver transplant recipient with complex medical needs. Navigating her care often requires coordination between multiple specialists, hospitals, and clinics. Throughout every obstacle, Sue and Andrea have been unwavering advocates. They don’t simply complete their daily tasks; they take ownership of making sure B receives the care she needs.

Most recently, they worked tirelessly to help coordinate outpatient treatment closer to home rather than requiring us to make another trip to Minneapolis. They made countless phone calls, consulted specialists, followed up on referrals, and kept pushing for answers even when the process became complicated. Knowing they were fighting alongside us lifted an enormous weight from our shoulders.

What makes Sue and Andrea so exceptional is that they never make us feel like we’re just another patient on their schedule. They know B. They know our family. They celebrate our victories, support us through setbacks, and genuinely care about the outcome. They respond with kindness, urgency, and compassion every single time we need them.

As parents of a medically complex child, we have learned that great nurses don’t just care for patients; they care for entire families. Sue and Andrea have been a constant source of reassurance, hope, and strength. Their dedication has made an immeasurable difference in Baelyn's care and in our lives.

We will never be able to fully express how grateful we are for everything they have done. They are exactly the kind of nurses the DAISY Award was created to recognize, and they are incredibly deserving of this honor.
