As a fellow nurse, it touched my heart to see the lengths Abby was willing to go to make sure that her patient was able to hold her dying father's hand.
1st Nomination – Patient
Abby went above and beyond for me while in the hospital. Not only was her care outstanding, she is a very compassionate person. My father was on the floor above me, passing away, and she put me in a wheelchair and took me up there so I could be with him during his last hours. She checked on me while I was up there to make sure I was ok. I have never had care and concern from another facility like that of Abby.
Second Nomination – Charge Nurse on M/S 2 Observation
During my shift as charge nurse, Abby was assigned to a patient whose father was also in our hospital's ICU unit. The patient received a call from her sister informing her that their father was actively dying. The patient was distraught and in tears. Abby stopped everything she was doing to comfort her patient. The patient wanted to visit her father upstairs, so Abby spoke with the hospitalists to come up with a plan to let the patient sit with her father.
She made sure her patient received all of her scheduled medications and care in a timely manner. Abby did everything she could to make sure that her patient was able to spend whatever time was left with her father. Abby made several trips upstairs to check on her.
