We had a very challenging patient with behavioral complications. The patient became enraged during a nurse visit. After about 30 min of disruptive behavior, Abbey used her de-escalation technique to help this child calm down. He would not respond to anyone. The mother was very upset and emotional about the interaction with the child and the staff. Abbey was calm, kind, and spoke to the child. She listened to what he was saying and connected with him. After about another 20 min, she was able to walk him to the car. Because of the complex situation, she stayed late to ensure the provider was involved in decision making, that the correct documentation occurred, and the correct outside team was notified. She was calm, professional and did an outstanding job caring for this patient and his mother.
