Over the last couple of weeks, Abbey has been taking care of a young, vulnerable patient with a new cancer diagnosis. This patient was unfortunately taking a turn for the worse and was put on multiple forms of life support. Despite our interventions, his prognosis was poor, and his time with his 8-year-old daughter was limited. With this in mind, Abbey collaborated with another one of his primary nurses to create something special for his daughter. Abbey and her counterpart created an audio recording of the patient's heartbeat to place inside a Build-A-Bear all within 24 hours. This gesture of compassion and empathy is above and beyond what we are expected to do for our 12 hours on shift. I am beyond impressed with the ability of these nurses to make such a huge difference in patient experience, and this is something the family will never forget!
