May 2026 Honoree
Shiji Cheriparampil Soman, BSC N
A young child was brought into our Emergency Department — a frightening experience for any family. Among the many uncertainties and anxieties that come with an emergency visit, what stood out most was not just the clinical care provided, but the warmth and humanity that Ms. Shiji brought into that room.
After the visit, the child's mother approached us with feedback that has stayed with me ever since. She said, simply and sincerely: "I felt Shiji was like a family member caring for my child."
Those words say everything. In the chaos and fear of an emergency, Shiji made a mother feel her child was not just a patient—but was being loved and cared for. She bridged the gap between clinical care and human connection in a way that most of us can only aspire to.
This is not a one-time act. It reflects who Shiji is every single day. She brings this same compassion, gentleness, and dedication to every patient and every family she touches. She is the reason families leave our department feeling held, not just treated.
