We look forward to Meredith's chipper, upbeat attitude as she always puts a positive spin on any situation.

Meredith always says, "Welcome to 3West where your wildest dreams come true" as she leads our evening huddles. After a usual day shift on 3W, busy with admissions, discharges, MET calls, BERT calls, and more, we all appreciate the love and support our fearless charge nurse gives us. We look forward to her chipper, upbeat attitude as she always puts a positive spin on any situation.

Our unit acuity has been quite heavy recently and today was unlike any we have ever seen. We have two insulin drips, two patients in restraints, one patient on an Angiomax drip, and many patients trying to jump out of their beds. During the course of the shift, we had to float one of our PCAs to 5South.

The shift was getting more and more busy and Meredith in particular went out of her way to make sure we all had our full lunch. A full 30-minute lunch. No less.

After covering all of our patients so we could eat on this busy weekend, she decided to check in on the PCA she floated to 5S. The PCA responded to Meredith and was very distraught. She said that she was still catching up on the morning's tasks and it was already 3 in the afternoon. The PCA further states that she is not having a good shift at all and did not think she would have her lunch break. Instead of telling the PCA "Oh, the shift will be over soon, you are almost there," she decides to go to 5S and cover this PCA's assignment so the PCA could go take her 30-minute lunch break. She didn't even tell the PCA she was coming-she just showed up. Let me say that again, "She shows up." As nurses and techs on 3W, we don't stay because we love the population. We stay because of the people, and the family we make along the way.

Meredith demonstrated that she cared deeply for her fellow coworkers, not by words, but by her actions. That PCA will be forever touched by Meredith's selfless gesture. The unit came together to write this DAISY nomination as we all feel like she deeply deserves recognition from her coworker family.
