Kim was there to hold my hand and console me in the most traumatic experience I've ever had in my life. My nerves and anxiety were lowered by her calmness and overwhelming support.
I was transported to Mass General with severe pain and 30 weeks pregnant. When I arrived, I was told my gallbladder needed to be removed, but before the surgeon scheduled surgery, he wanted to run an MRI. After the MRI was done, I became even more sickly, and my blood levels revealed low platelets and high liver enzymes. I was told at 3:30 a.m. I had HELLP disorder and would need to have an emergency C-Section later that morning when my husband arrived.

Imagine waking up thinking you’re getting your gallbladder out and finding that you need to have an emergency C-Section at 30 weeks. I have never been more afraid in my entire life that not only was my life at risk, but that my baby girl was, too. All I could think was I failed her and that she still needed more time to grow and develop.

The ARN told me that I would have an amazing nurse by my side throughout the day, and she couldn't have been more correct. Kim was there for me emotionally and mentally throughout all the prep. She remained so calm and positive the entire time. Kim offered to let me use her air pods during the C-Section so that I could jam to Taylor Swift. During the spinal tap, I was terrified in the OR room since my husband had to wait for me to get the spinal tap before coming in. I thought to myself, I can't do this - and Kim was there to hold my hand and console me in the most traumatic experience I've ever had in my life. My nerves and anxiety were lowered by her calmness and overwhelming support.

This experience is not what any first-time parents think would happen. We hadn't even had our baby shower. Along with the support of my family, Kim's attitude toward this traumatic experience is what got me through. I fondly remember Kim telling me, "I'm, coming to your daughter's surprise birthday party today" and I couldn't help but have a huge smile. I'm truly blessed to have had her as my nurse. It is a day I will never forget, and Kim is a nurse that will always be one of my biggest supporters that day. Her compassionate care made me feel like I was her own family member. The world needs more Kims.
