Abby came in, immediately realized there was a serious issue, and as my baby went into cardiac arrest, she initiated CPR and called the code.
Abby was our nurse while my 2-week-old son was in the PICU. We were so impressed by the way she took care of him. He was on a ventilator and sedated, but she talked to him like he could hear her and just loved on him. He might not have been able to hear her, but as his mother, it was so good for my heart, knowing she was taking such good care of him while he was so helpless. She went above and beyond the normal standard of care - our baby was pretty small in the large crib and was having difficulty staying positioned, so she worked to fashion his bed so he'd be as comfortable as possible and created a towel-pillowcase combination that fixed the problem. Later that afternoon he was extubated. A short while later we noticed he was struggling to breathe, and we called for help. Abby came in, immediately realized there was a serious issue, and as my baby went into cardiac arrest, she initiated CPR and called the code. They were able to save his life, and my husband and I thoroughly believe that's largely due to Abby and her quick response. We were so impressed by Abby's ability to switch between being a compassionate caretaker and immediately going into emergency mode. The whole staff here has been phenomenal, but we fully credit Abby with saving our baby's life.
