Edona demonstrates extraordinary care with all of the patients on the Rehab unit. We had a patient on Rehab who was admitted with aphasia. He was often frustrated and mildly agitated as he had difficulty communicating with others. The patient was not on the Rehab program very long but he was on skilled nursing status, awaiting placement. He was bored and tried to leave the unit on multiple occasions. Edona made it her mission to keep the patient engaged, by seeking tasks and cognitive activities (e.g., worksheets, music) for the patient. She sought therapists out and asked for worksheets and appropriate tasks for the patient to do as well. This is just one out of many examples that Edona has gone above and beyond to help patients. She's charge nurse one or two days a week and she always helps the CNAs and other nurses, as if she were on the floor. She's pleasant with everyone and always willing to help. She's the reason why the DAISY Award was created!

Edona is fondly called Donna in the Rehab unit and always loved by her patients because she carries the face of a happy nurse serving patients with extraordinary care and compassion. As a Care Management team member, I do bedside interviews and her name always surfaces as the favorite of patients because of her extraordinary service, effective advocate for patients and efficient in many aspects that make her as a well-rounded RN. She is a caring nurse as regarded by patients who treats everybody the same regardless of ethnicity and she values accountability to all patients not just her assigned patients. She carries the attitude of working as a team player upholding our AHS mission and vision.
