... Our mom was in the hospital for 10 days in July of 2014. Our mother has a severe respiratory disease and it was a scary time for all of us. Our mother and father have both been admitted to LGH several times and out of all those times, Amanda is stands out as most compassionate and caring. Every night when Amanda came on duty, she would come and see mom, and us and take a few minutes to sit down with mom. She would ask mom how the day went and how she felt. Amanda reviewed with mom what was in her notes by the previous nurse.

Amanda took it a step above and talked to mom about COPD and how to manage it. There was a time when mom continued to be short of breath and her doctor proposed the idea of her going on a mild anti-anxiety medicine to help lessen her anxiety about her shortness of breath. Mom was not sure if she wanted to take this medicine but Amanda thoroughly explained to mom about this medicine and what it will do for her and how long it would take to take effect. Mom did begin taking this medicine and her shortness of breath became better controlled.

Amanda always answered our questions and made sure that we were completely aware of what was going on in mom's treatment. In all honesty, you would have thought Amanda was one of mom's grandchildren by the way she cared for mom!

Amanda also made sure mom was comfortable in her bed before she left her and made sure she had everything that she needed within hands reach. She also put a note on her door to make sure that mom was not to be disturbed during the nighttime per doctor's orders. Amanda made sure mom knew to call her no matter what!

Amanda made all the difference in mom's stay. Let's face it, being in the hospital is not a restful time or peaceful time for anyone but when you have a nurse like Amanda it makes all the difference in the world! Thank you, Amanda, for showing kindness and love towards mom and to all of us.
