I believe Rosa Padama is a perfect candidate for the DAISY Award. My Mom was admitted to St. Peter's Cancer Unit, 6 Pavilion and Rosa was one of her nurses. Unfortunately, she passed away and that is part of the reason why I am writing this recommendation. Rosa did everything possible for my mom; she quieted her when she got restless and anxious; she laughed with her when she felt silly or in a good mood; most importantly, she not only heard but really listened to her and didn't just fulfill her job requirements. Rosa always remembered she was treating a human being with real feelings and real fears of mortality.
Rosa was extremely knowledgeable of her job which was a great feeling of comfort to not only Mom but all of her loved ones. Her dedication and commitment to her patients as well as St. Peter's should be commended and recognized. Every day, Rosa confirmed she was one of Anna's greatest advocates especially on that dreadful day 24 hours before she passed. Rosa was scheduled to work 3 pm to 11 pm which she did. During those hours, she saw Mom struggling with labored breathing and basically going through a very rough time. Rosa did what she could to keep her comfortable, staying in touch with the doctor, cleaning her soiled bed sheets I can't tell you how many times, and just being genuinely concerned for her patient.
Rosa thought of her patient before thinking about herself and clocking out and going home. She quietly announced to us she didn't want to leave Mom and was going to stay for another shift to be with her. She continued to work from 11pm until 7 am Sunday morning. I cannot tell you what that meant to me and my siblings. Who does that? Who puts others before themselves? I believe Rosa should be applauded and presented with the esteemed DAISY Award!!! If I am ever sick, please make sure my nurse is Rosa Padama, without a doubt I will get the best care ever.
