My daughter was born 6 weeks early and had to stay in the NICU and Chelsea was one of the nurses who watched over her. I remember feeling scared, anxious, upset, and worried about the unknown. I knew my daughter was in good hands, but I still didn't want to go home without her. I remember coming to visit her and feeling the disappointment because she was not finishing her bottles and that would just delay her staying in the NICU longer. I remember the first time meeting Chelsea, she gave us a warm welcome. She made me feel safer about leaving my daughter and even gave us tips to help her finish her feedings. She took the time to feed her and it felt like she was caring for one of her own. My daughter ended up having to get a feeding tube in so she could eat the recommended amount and I felt like we were just going backward. Chelsea wrote down the times they fed her so I could be there and at the bottom of the paper she wrote, "You're doing great, one day at a time." I read it and cried because I felt the complete opposite but just seeing those words gave me hope and little did I know my daughter would come home 10 days later. Thank you, Chelsea, for instilling that hope back into us. It may have been a small thing, but it meant a lot to me. Being a NICU nurse was definitely your calling and I hope you continue to change lives one day at a time.
