Rebecca Langford is an amazing RN. Most of her nursing background comes from UVA where she worked as a nurse in the OR for 11 years. In January of 2012, she came to Bon Secours St. Francis in a new position, as peri-op facilitator.

Her first focus was to improve communication in the Operating Rooms. Part of this entailed getting better and more Voceras. From there, she secured isolation carts that could hang on each operating door where there was an infectious disease component. This may be standard practice on the floors, and in the pre and post op area, but grabbing a yellow gown from a rolling cart on your way to the room, became an avenue for non-compliance. She quickly nipped this in the bud.

The next task, she took on, revolved around cleaning and reorganizing the Main OR core. With the help of her co-facilitator, Marci Borden, they organized inventory according to service. This alone, helped any employee find OR soft goods with speed and measurably less frustration.

Once this was accomplished, she re-organized the equipment room and created more space and significantly less clutter.

Presently, she is examining tape and looking at the efficacy of single use options.

All of this is outside her facilitator role, where she makes sure rooms are ready to go in the morning for on time starts, turnover is quick and efficient and staff is relieved for breaks and lunches. When our Nurse Manager is on vacation, she easily slips into this role with ease.

She is presently a member of Surgical Services Shared Governance and was instrumental in helping with this year's Nurses Week celebration, the backpack lunch program, Operation Smile and donating her time to recognize co-workers for a job well done.
