Marilyn, a 2B nurse, was floated to 4B for the night. She was given a hospice assignment. The patient was restless and impulsive related to his medical status. When I walked in to assist Marilyn, she was finishing with a bath. She stated that the patient was complaining of sweating and itching. The patient appeared more relaxed. She was also managing his symptoms medically with some success. The patient, however, continued to have the episodes, but she took the time to hold his hand to reinforce his situation and comfort him. The patient took comfort in short intervals, but Marilyn stayed by his side for most of the night with deep compassion for his comfort and care.
