With one of our difficult patients at the time, Katie retained a positive attitude along with her cheerful, helpful personality. Even in this time of challenges, Katie did not get discouraged but rather continued to have a positive attitude and tried to the best of her ability to help the family and go above and beyond their expectations. She always strives to do her best as well as accommodate to the patient and his or her religious practices. If it's against a patient's religion to take Advil, eat pork, or whatever it may be, she respects this religion and decision and tries to figure out something that will work for the patient.
She also provides care at the right time. If she knows one of her patient's medications needs to be given at a specific time, she will make sure she gets it done when it should be. She also does things when she sees they need to be done, whether it is cleaning, changing a diaper, restocking items, or anything else. If she sees it needs to be done, then she will get it done.
She is also very uplifting, supportive, positive, and helpful to those around her. When I first started, I was a little nervous. She told me there is nothing to be nervous about, and that I would do great. If we, PCTs and new nurses, had any questions or needed any help she was always willing to help or teach us. If there was anything that she saw someone doing incorrectly, she would approach them and focus on the positives, then politely and kindly try to correct that person.
